Simply Natural
It has been way too long…

Here is a quick catch-up. I probably shouldn’t have started this blog until I was finished school. Oh well :)

I have been trying all different products, natural and store bought, trying to find what will work best for my hair growth.

Just as soon as I think I have found the perfect combination, I find that my hair rebels!

I tried going all natural by using just baking soda as a shampoo and then following with a vinegar rinse. This worked amazingly the first time. I tried this for about a three week span and found that my hair seemed to smell bad. I then tried to add cinnamon to the vinegar to add a fragrance. This was just not working for me, I just overall felt dirty and couldn’t wait to use a traditonal shampoo and conditioner.

But I refrained and found a person on Etsy that made her own cleansing conditioner. It was quite expensive but I thought it would be worth it if it worked. I ended up using 1/3 of the bottle the first time I used it. Although I was using alot of product, you could literally feel the change in your hair as it slipped through your fingers. My scalp felt wonderful! My hair was soft! It dried amazingly (for lack of a better word) It was a miracle in a bottle!!! but this only lasted about 4 more washes and my hair was so full of build up. It felt like there was a thick coat of candle wax on each strand.

Ugh- will I ever find a good combo???

Which then lead me to the Garnier Fructis line. They are advertising a green environmentally friendly recipe that I thought I would try this time.  I don’t really like the smell of Garnier Fructis. I think it kind of smells like cat urine :(. Anywho, again the first wash and conditon worked well and then my hair started to feel like it had a build up on it so I quit Garnier and used a baking soda wash and vinegar rinse. Result: Great hair again!!

So for now I am using a dollar store White Rain shampoo and conditoner. I shampoo and condition twice a week and then skip a day and use a baking soda and vinegar rinse to cleanse my hair and scalp well. This seems to be working the best for me but found that I need a bit more conditioning for my stressed hair resulting from the striping that I put it through.

I went to Sally’s and asked for a really good leave-in. The suggested the Generic version of Sebastian Potion #9. So far so good. I need to post a pic of my hair growth.

To be continued…

This is my goal length. This is so pretty <3 I am thinking this length will take me about two years. We shall see. Love, Love, Love!!!

My hair journey…

I recently had my hair stripped (one week ago) that same day I called Lush to ask about using henna on “chemically processed hair”. CHEMICALLY PROCESSED HAIR!! I never thought I would ever describe my hair by using that term. I was always the one with the long hair and now I have shoulder length chemically processed hair. hump…

About a year ago I decided to cut my hair short (the Posh asymmetrical bob), I thought I would cut it short once to see what it would be like. I loved it! It was very pretty but I also have to add I wasn’t prepared for the work I would now have to do. I was used to having long hair that I would just wash and go. Now I had to wash, dry, straighten and use product on. YIKES!

Like I said it was very nice and was now growing out with a pretty painless transition, inch by inch. Then I noticed I was getting a patch of white hair poppin up. Great, a little garden of baby white hairs decided to join me in my late 20’s! (*sarcasm) What was I going to do? I didn’t want to color it. A hairdresser recommended me to put mascara on it to cover it? Ummmm no thanks. I decided I would pluck it. OH yeah I will pluck out those baby whites. And no they didn’t multiply by plucking, those jerks just kept on growing back.

The plucking became a pain and it just didn’t feel right to be voluntarily pulling out my hair so I did a bit of Googling and found that plucking is not a great idea. Plucking could lead to scalp infections and more hairloss. sigh… Well now I guess it is time, time to buy a box color.

I walked up and down the aisle at Walmart and decided on a semi-perm color similar to my natural shade. (I figured it wouldn’t be as damaging.) It was nice but the little whites just kept on showing through. So next I decided to try a highlighting kit to just blend them in. I found a cute little kit that had a yummy name like chocolate cherries. This kit was to give you redish highlights with a chocolate base. This didn’t come out so well. The red was too (what’s the word?) like an orangish rust. The brown took on like a black to my ends. Needless to say this was not a desirable result for late 20’s me!

Oh my gosh I am starting a new job at the end of the month and this “look” was not work appropriate. If I were high strung I would have been panicking but I calmly thought “What am I going to do?” My hair does not look like chocolate cherries, I look more like an advertisement for Halloween! I need to cover up this orange so again I turned to a semi-perm to tint the orange to a brown.

Now I am so angry with myself for putting my hair through this abuse all because of this little army of white baby hairs on my naturally chestnut brown hair has caused me to self destruct…

But that is not the end. My hair, at this point, has a reddish tint to the roots and is black at the bottom. I think it looks pretty but again it is not going to be considered “work appropriate”. And now this brings me to the present…

A week ago I had my hair stripped and colored and after all the tugging, pulling, massaging (of my hair), shampooing, conditioning, tingling and burning leaving with my head numb and my spirits low my hair is sort of back to where I began. It is now dryer but I have to say that through all the torture that I have put my hair through it is still in pretty good shape! But regardless of my hairs now poorer condition I know it is only a matter of time before the white army shows up again and this time I will be armed with safe natural henna from lush!

I have to note that I did call lush to ask if my hair can hold up to henna after being chemically tortured because I have read that some hennas react with chemically processed hair and can result in a green tint. So just do your research.

I will document my hair progress. Hopefully this will help someone out that may be in the same situation as me. I want to grow my hair long not quite to my derriere but around there :) I plan on using henna in about two to three months. Making sure that I am giving my hair and scalp a break and also making sure I get enough olive oil and coconut treatments to keep my hair hydrated and avoiding my hair turning to straw. And I plan to do this by staying Simply Natural. Using as many natural products as I can and keeping a healthy lifestyle.
